SALTA, DESTINATION OF EXCELLENCE

Mixing with the modern, there are many ways of entertainment and fun: folk peñas, restaurants, bars, pubs, discos and casinos are some of the places where the cultural and social life of Salta takes place.

Salta offers the world the most delicious and tastiest dishes of the popular cuisine of the North of Argentina, always served with unique high altitude wines recognized all over the world.

CAFAYATE

Cafayate

The city of Cafayate is located 189 km from the provincial capital, it is accessed through National Route 68, passing through the towns of Cerrillos, La Merced, El Carril, Coronel Moldes, La Viña and Talapampa, from where You access the tour through the majestic Quebrada de Las Conchas, with its striking and colorful rock formations such as the devil's throat, the amphitheater, the toad, the friar, the obelisk, the windows, the castles originated by wind erosion and the pass of the time.

Then an area of dunes or dunes is crossed, a few kms. Later on, vineyards, to then arrive at Cafayate, the departmental capital and the most important settlement in the Calchaquíes Valleys, where you can visit different wineries and taste exquisite wines such as Torrontés, the characteristic variety of the area.

 

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary

One of the most beautiful churches in Salta. It was built in 1885 and is one of the few South American churches that retains its five original naves. In October, the patron saint festivities are held in honor of the Virgen del Rosario, patron saint of the town and agriculture, with a procession and parade of institutions, gaucho forts and agricultural machinery.

 

The Highest Wine Route in the World

Located in the heart of the Calchaquíes Valleys, 186 km (3h 30min) from Salta, Cafayate is known worldwide for being part of the highest wine route in the world with the highest concentration of wineries. The thermal amplitude of the area and the composition of the soil favor its own organoleptic characteristics with a high concentration of aromas, flavors and colors. Torrontés wine stands out for its intense aroma and fruity flavor.

It is the ideal place to tempt yourself and buy some authentic crafts from Cafayate. There, in addition to original pieces, the artisans show visitors the ancestral techniques of their noble profession.

 

Museum of the Vine and Wine

It is one of the most innovative museums in technology in the country; you can learn everything related to the wine production of this region, with images, sounds and simulations that make the visitor feel that they are part of the experience, being greeted by the growers, walking on the irrigation ditches and living a sunrise or a dusk in the town.

Cafayate has an important gastronomic square that offers the most varied dishes and menus for the tasting of those who visit it. Regional gastronomy stands out with exquisite authentic dishes such as empanadas, tamales, humitas, kid casserole, carbonada, goat cheese, fruits such as grapes, figs, quinces, nuts, high altitude wines, artisan wines and mistela, all with products from area. The gourmet kitchen also adds a distinctive touch through the fusion of both, to offer the visitor the possibility of an optimal pairing with the wines produced in the area.

 

Golf in a unique place

Practicing this sport in the midst of incredible landscapes is a must in this place. With an 18-hole course designed by Bob Cupp, Cafayate is the venue for national and international tournaments that attract a large number of followers to this passion.

 

Serenade to Cafayate

It takes place in February and is one of the most important festivals in the Calchaquí Valley, where Salta music is shown in all its splendor, summoning the best folkloric artists in the country.

 

The Peñas Folclóricas and our traditional music

Wine is one of the products that most identifies Cafayate. In the folkloric clubs it is possible to live a musical moment accompanied by our typical dishes and wines where the artists transmit the great affection of the people of Salta for their land.

It is one of the most sought after paths by athletes from all over the world. The incredible landscapes of National Route No. 68 and the possibility of combining it with visits to neighboring provinces make this circuit one of the most outstanding in Argentina.

 

Los Médanos

6 km from Cafayate, it is an ideal place for walking, playing guitar at sunset or horseback riding in the moonlight. At sunset, when the sun goes down, the dunes are the best place to enjoy the incredible colors of the Calchaquí Valleys.

 

Tolombón

14 km from Cafayate is this small and picturesque town. Nearby, at the foot of the Sierra del Cajón, is an ancient pre-Hispanic city considered the political capital of the Calchaquí nations and seat of the famous Cacique Juan Calchaquí. The building extends on the slopes of a hill, but the vegetation is so tangled that it is difficult to notice it at first glance. Here you can find wineries, hotels, places to eat and spend the day. In January the ¬esta de la Añapa (drink made with the fruit of the carob tree) takes place. Its ¬this patronal is in July in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.

 

Yacochuya and San Luis landscapes embraced by a belt of vineyards

The Yacochuya area is located 6 km from the center of Cafayate in a northwesterly direction. Here, too, the landscape captivates us with its colorful hills and tree species. We can not only enjoy it but also the wineries installed in that area. Likewise, it invites us to go spend the day, walk through that place and take advantage of the unique view of the valley. The area of San Luis is located 5km west of the center of Cafayate, bordered by the Chusca River, a tree-lined ditch, the old Inca trail and several wine estates. This site has the particularity of being surrounded by old stone walls, made by indigenous communities, which are in a good state of conservation.

 

Walk through El Divisadero

In the El Divisadero area, 6 kilometers from the center of Cafayate, you can enjoy La Cueva del Suri (circuit with cave paintings), visit wineries, Rural Community Tourism and excursions in the Colorado River Waterfall.
